Created and taught by Jessica Johnson, Licensed Esthetician, Master Educator, International Judge & Breast Cancer Survivor, this training combines professional esthetics education with firsthand experience.
After being diagnosed with breast cancer, Jessica personally experienced the cancer journey through surgery, 15 radiation treatments, and ongoing treatment and recovery. As an esthetician, she found herself experiencing skin changes, sensitivity, healing and recovery not only as a skincare professional—but as the patient herself.

Going through radiation gave Jessica an especially personal understanding of how cancer treatment can affect the skin and how important it is for estheticians to understand radiation-treated skin, barrier changes, sensitivity, healing, treatment modifications and appropriate professional precautions.
That experience changed the way she viewed caring for clients affected by cancer and inspired the creation of Oncology Esthetics Certification Training.
This course brings professional education together with the compassion that comes from personally understanding what it feels like to be the person on the other side of the treatment room.
Students will learn about the potential effects of radiation therapy, chemotherapy, surgery, immunotherapy, targeted therapies and endocrine therapies, with special attention given to radiation-related skin changes and considerations for professional esthetic care.
The goal is not to medically treat cancer or its complications. It is to give esthetic professionals greater knowledge and confidence to provide safe, thoughtful and compassionate skincare services within their professional scope of practice.
Cancer can change someone’s skin, body and confidence. Sometimes the smallest act of compassionate care can help a person feel like themselves again.

This class was created from education, professional experience and lived experience—including my own journey through breast cancer, surgery and radiation.
My hope is to take what I learned from being both the esthetician and the oncology patient and use it to help other professionals provide a higher level of understanding and care to the clients who need it most.
